Hub’s favourite piece at present, which he often plays on the piano, is Scarlatti’s ‘Cat’ Fugue.
Apparently Scarlatti’s cat jumped up on his harpsichord, and the notes which it stepped on suggested the theme to Scarlatti. He didn’t call it the ‘Cat Fugue’ or ‘Cat’s Fugue’ – that label came later on.
Here’s Colin Booth playing it on a harpsichord: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlPo-NHiI_k
So what do you think – can you hear the cat walking on the notes at the beginning ❓
This piece sounds like sonorous church music and would probably transpose well for organ recital.
