Children’s church this morning, and I discovered I’d double booked somebody to come and help me – who was also leading the prayers – so had to pressgang Ruthie into coming instead.
Ruthie is lovely. She’s a very big lady, and when we meet I always get a huge, enveloping cuddle. She was bereaved a few months before me, so that’s given us an extra bond … and when I’m feeling fed up, there’s nothing like one of Ruthie’s kingsize hugs to cheer me up!
After the services we always sing happy birthday to whomever has one in the week. Today is little Tila’s – remember her – the ‘elective mute’ child ? She was DEAD chuffed to have everyone singing to her – her eyes were shining! Afterwards, Hub went to her and said ‘how old are you today?’ She whispered the answer – she hasn’t quite got around to talking yet – and then he took the mike and said ‘how old are you, did you say?’
‘FIVE’ she said, into the mike – and got another round of applause. Brilliant stuff
Got home feeling tired – am waking up far too early these mornings. Tried having a nap but annoyed myself by being fidgety instead. Eventually got up and started getting veg etc ready for supper (or dinner, or tea, whichever part of the country you’re in). Eldest daughter + partner + granddaughter were coming round.
I picked up a Gino d’Acampo recipe book in the January sales, so tried out his pork dish – cooked with rosemary, mushrooms, chilli flakes and orange juice. Not bad!
Family have gone off now and … I am preparing to crash with my trusty mug of tea.
Hope the day has treated you all well!
I have a habit of waking at one oclock or two oclock in the morning then again at about five oclock always have who are these people that sleep all night for eight hours solid i never do.xx

I don’t like cooking all that much and so I have a tendency to get stuck in a rut and always produce the same dishes because I know they usually turn out all right! The pork was OK but I wouldn’t put it at the top of my list.

How brilliant that the little girl spoke into the mike – but how wonderful that you and hub made her feel able to and took all the trouble with her and her mother etc….

How lovely Ruthie sounds….and that is priceless re the little mute girl! I did an artworkshop with a class of kids a few years back and was chatting to one of the little boys. When the teacher came in she was so shocked as the boy hasn’t spoken to anyone for five years! Very odd, after that he began talking again!
Yes, you’ve earned that cuppa me dear gal!xxxx

What a lovely thing to do with kids – I’ve noticed that when Tila is doing something ‘arty’ with me she is much more likely to say something. Must be to do with the fact that we use a different part of our brains for creativity, and maybe we are more relaxed!
