MINI, MIDDLETON, MIDI, MAXI … WE’VE BEEN HERE BEFORE!

In the early 70s I went from mini to midi to maxi interchangeably – remember those days?

this is a 60s photo

Guess what, they are back – this time in pleats. Not always a good idea for those of us with fuller figures … 😉 – and maybe not greatly beloved of those of us who had to endure pleated school uniforms 😡

But there is also a new addition. The middleton! – a just-above-the-knee version like those worn by Kate on formal occasions.

Bet her wedding dress is maxi, though.

(I think this is gorgeous!)

It used to be that only one hemline was fashionable. Now anything goes – good news for skirt-wearers of all shapes and sizes 😉

    1. We can still love fashion, Lilian … we just have to be a little more choosy!!

  2. I remember the three lengths too and have made myself outfits in all lengths. Once I made a maxi suit long skirt with a bolero to match worn with a frilly blouse (see those are back too) and when maxi went out again I just cut the skirt off and made a mini :))

    1. You can do that with a maxi! Mind you, women have been doing that for decades … I remember being a bridesmaid when I was 7 with a long white dress with yellow velvet polka dots. And then Mum cut it down so it was a shorter white dress with yellow … etc etc – wore it for years!!! (can’t have grown all that quickly )

  3. Yes, it’s a shame when such decisions are dictated by fashion. Much better that the choice express the personality of the wearer.

    1. I think it’s much easier to do that these days, Shimon. Thankfully!

  4. I agree with you on both counts….now any length goes, and I love that maxi you showed….which today you could wear with sneakers/trainers and sequins…or whatever else floats your boat:)

    1. When I was a little girl I always wanted to wear long skirts, so I couldn’t believe my luck when the maxi finally came in!

I must admit I want to know what her dress is going to be like a marang or something simple?

When it comes to weddings as I get ready in the morning Channel 5 repeats a programme called Bridzilla’s and it’s like a car-crash you cannot switch it off but it does make you wonder about the material that is now on tap in ‘The Human Genepool!’

    1. I hope it’s something simple, Kerry – she doesn’t strike me as the meringue type, but we shall see! Thanks for stopping by.

      2. I suspect she will go for something long, with that huge abbey to walk up! It will be fun finding out.
