Excellent! Do you think Pur Modern World has lost touch with ‘symbolism’? Carl Jung wrote a rather insightful book cslled…’Man and his Symbols’.. Fascinating….;)x
I am sure there is still a very strong following of the ‘Symbolic’…though there appears to be growing cynacism in some ‘Western Orientated Societies’.. Britain leans mofre and more to the ‘cynical’…Sadly….;)x
… although I wonder whether we really do create any ‘new’ myths. Is not the obsession with celebrities, and in an earlier era film stars, and earlier than that, gladiators for instance – a manifestation of wanting people on pedestals, to whom we look up for one reason or another – like heroes and heroines in the old animist myths? People who pit themselves against adversity?
I thought you would spot that….The essence of myth takes on many garbs….persona…we too lightly dismiss the ‘myths’ of/from other cultures, oblivious to the way we dress our own…;)
I note this in the Christian world as well, the desire to put certain people on pedestals and consider them ‘better’ than the rest of us poor mortals … I’m afraid I am always very suspicious of this. As far as I can see, the ground is level at the foot of the Cross!
What C S Lewis inveighed against as the ‘inner ring’ – and how right he was. I have to admit that, when we realised we would be coming home early from Romania (parents’ health) and would be returning to parish life, I refused to consider our previous diocese on this basis … 😉
Thank you! I wonder what would happen if all the people who experience this spoke together … depends on the number of bishops who might (or might not) join … :))
I doubt whether you would find many ‘bishops’ – or people who have insinuated themselves nearer – closer – the ‘Inner Ring’…..Their ‘station’ becomes their ‘raison d’etre….:)
Being a deacon means I am pretty well off everyone’s radar, unless I choose to put myself on to it … and also means that I can make it up as I go along, which gives me sufficient freedom to do what I think God wants me to do. But how He puts up with us I don’t know!
Feel more rested but in the last hour I’ve had a cold come on, felt a bit nasaly this morning but didn’t have time to worry now it’s come with a vengeance. Still I did pray that it would hold off til I’d finished the lunches :))
Sorry…that is meant to read…’Exclusivism’ 🙄 x

I wonder if some of the leaning towards the ‘spiritual’ (in so many forms, weird and wonderful!) is a way of counterbalancing this?
